InterID celebrates the inauguration of Minister Lewandowski at the Ministry of Justice

Ricardo Lewandowski has taken over the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. Sworn in last Thursday, February 1st, the former minister of the Supreme Federal Court is a prominent expert on the subject of identification in the country. According to the President of the International Institute of Identification (InterID), Célio Ribeiro, the choice for the position could not have been better.

“Minister Lewandowski has always acted in a republican manner in leading the issue of identification in the country. He is a true defender of the roles of each branch of the republic in this context of identification, respecting autonomy and always working towards harmony among them. We have been familiar with the minister’s work in this field for at least 15 years, and we are convinced of his competence and commitment to the identity of Brazilians,” he emphasized.

Célio Ribeiro and Minister Lewandowski

According to Ribeiro, the appointment of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski to the Ministry of Justice marks a significant moment, especially as the National Identity Card (CIN) is being implemented in Brazilian states.

“InterID enthusiastically celebrates the appointment of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski. His experience will be a key asset in discussions with the ministry concerning identification matters. The Ministry of Justice and Public Security is a permanent member of the Federal Executive Chamber of Citizen Identification (CEFIC), a body responsible for governing natural person identification within the Federal Public Administration. Minister Lewandowski’s leadership will bring progress, as he has always recognized the severe damages suffered by both the state and society due to weak identification systems,” Ribeiro emphasized.

The minister, to whom we fully subscribe, also noted that, among other benefits, a modern, secure, and citizen-oriented identity document helps “mitigate the serious losses incurred by the state from fraud resulting from identity theft, with the damages to public coffers reaching tens of millions of reais.”
