This news made headlines across various media outlets, in major newspapers.
But this moment represents more than that. It means that our country, with over 200,000,000 people, finally has an Identification System being implemented. It’s not simple, and for that reason, it should be celebrated. Each step is a major achievement.
That’s why I chose to highlight Gov.br, instead of major newspapers. To congratulate, highlight, and recognize these few individuals who, within a still very small structure, are doing a tremendous job for our country.
CIN, OUR GREATEST INSTRUMENT OF CITIZENSHIP
NATIONAL IDENTITY
Five million Brazilians already have the New National Identity Card
Number released by the Ministry of Management
Five million Brazilians already have the new National Identity Card, the CIN. Among them, around 70,000 people with disabilities have obtained their CIN and can now have a Gold account on the GOV.BR platform. The numbers were released this Thursday (03/21) by the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI).
‘The CIN is very important for public security, to reduce fraud, but it is also essential for the digital inclusion of people,’ says the Secretary of Digital Government, Rogério Mascarenhas. ‘This new document is a gateway to over 4,200 digital services available on GOV.BR. It is also a path for the Public Administration to be proactive and better serve citizens,’ he added.
Upon receiving the printed document, people can already access the GOV.BR app to download the CIN in digital format. The process is similar to what already occurs with the driver’s license (CNH). After logging in, the ‘Document Wallet’ icon appears on the home screen, simply click the ‘+’ button, select ‘Identity Card,’ and then ‘Add Document’ to access the Digital CIN.
To make facial recognition easier, the MGI updated the GOV.BR app to allow the use of the rear camera for this process. ‘In this way, we are facilitating usage for anyone who needs support for proper photo capture, such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and those with neurodegenerative diseases, like Parkinson’s. GOV.BR makes people’s lives easier, but digital transformation must be for everyone,’ explains Mascarenhas.
Among the services available on GOV.BR for people with disabilities are:
- Issuance of the Person with Disability Certificate;
- Request for Inclusion Assistance for People with Disabilities;
- Request for Assistance Benefit for People with Disabilities (BPC/LOAS); and
- Request to participate in the Second Time Paradesporto Program for people with disabilities (PST).
The complete list of services is available on GOV.BR.
National Standard
One of the advantages of the CIN is the use of the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) as a unique number for all federative units, enabling a national standard. In this way, it is possible to structure administrative registries and enhance public security verifications. Before the CIN, it was possible to have a document for each federative unit.
So far, the new identity card is issued in 23 states and the Federal District. These states are: Acre, Alagoas, Amazonas, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Sergipe e Tocantins.
