Dweck: We must reach 150 million national identity cards issued by 2026.

The Minister of Management, Esther Dweck, stated that the government aims to expedite the goal of issuing the National Identity Card, which unifies ID cards under a unique number, the CPF, and to reach 150 million cards issued by the end of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) term in 2026. Currently, this number stands at nearly 15 million, according to her. The previous goal was for the new identity card to be available to all Brazilians only by 2031.

“The CIN is where it deserves to be. Our National Identity Card – CIN occupies its rightful place of prominence, being the subject of a meeting with President Lula, Ministers, and governors. Whether in the context of digital transformation, public safety, or social inclusion, the CIN is our greatest instrument of citizenship,” emphasizes Célio Ribeiro, Executive President of InterID.

“Today, we have all states issuing the cards. In 21 states, only the new card is being issued, and in six, there is still a hybrid situation,” he said at the meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and governors, held this afternoon to present the Public Safety Constitutional Amendment Proposal..
